Ocote is the Mayan word for "torch". Ocote is a naturally fast growing wood from Central America which has very high resin content. Used by traditional Mayan people to light fires for heating and cooking purposes. Simply light with a match or lighter and the Ocote sticks will produce a flame which can be used to light fires. Alternatively, place one or two sticks under kindling & paper inside the ready to light fire and light the ends. Highly fragrant and 100% natural material with no artificial chemicals. When burning, the resin produces a sweet and pleasant smelling odour. Ocote is the Gardeco recommended lighting method for clay chimeneas. Using Ocote will not crack the Chimenea. Gardeco Ocote is fairly bought from remote poor communities in the Guatemala highlands. Ocote is a fast growing tree from naturally growing forests on the slopes of mountains throughout Central America.
