Soapwort (Saponaria officinalis). Steep the whole plant, especially the roots, in water to produce soapy lather for skin rinses, shampoo and a gentle cleanser for delicate fabrics. A sprawling plant with lovely pink flowers.
When to Sow: April to June.
Where to Sow: Outside in mid spring. Grow in any soil, not too dry. Will tolerate poor soil. Site in sun or partial shade.
