This plant produces so called pitchers at the end of its leaves. It even has developed a little lid in order to protect the digestive fluids in the pitchers from getting diluted. With a sweet smell the insects get attracted.
When looking for the sweet nectar, the prey falls into the fluid and can't get back out because of the smooth inner walls. After a while the get disolved and digested, leaving behind only their exoskeletons.

Care
The pitcher plant is a tropical plant. It loves warm and moist surroundings. In order to get many pitchers, they need high humidity. It grows particularly well in glass cases or terrariums on a west or east window. If they grow too big, they can be cut back.
Tip:
Sometimes the plant stops growing pitchers. If that should be the case with your plant, simply break off the growing tip. The strength of the plant ist then rerouted to the tip of the leaves and it will restart making pitchers.
